Indian Navy gets 6th Boeing P-8I and orders 6 advanced ACTAS towed array sonars


Acquisition of anti-sub warfare equipment shows India trying to boost its submarine hunting capabilities in the India ocean and the Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal.

The Indian Navy's sixth aircraft landed at INS Rajali in Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu.

IN is likely to order four more P-81 long-range maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft from Boeing as part of an eight-aircraft contract worth over Rs 12,000 crore.

The P-8I is equipped with foreign and indigenous sensors for maritime reconnaissance, anti-submarine operations and electronic intelligence missions and carries the lates anti-surface and anti-submarine weapons.

Indian Navy has also ordered 6 advanced towed array sonar (ACTAS) systems from Atlas Elektronik 40 million Euros for three Talwar-class frigates (INS Talwar, Trishul and Tabar) and three Delhi-class destroyers (INS Delhi, Mumbai and Mysore).
